In President Obama’s State of the Union Address he proclaimed a refreshing matter of truth. “What frustrates the American people is a Washington where every day is Election Day. We can’t wage a perpetual campaign…”. However, like all his campaign promises it was nothing more than inspiring words without so much as a drop of sincerity.
For those out there who don’t rest easily on superficial statements, and actually pay attention to actions rather than words, this “Perpetual Campaign” is in fact all he seems to be good at. Since he took office it has been one public relations initiative after another. The most recent being his laughable appearance on The View. Attending the centennial celebration of the Boy Scouts of America would have been a more Presidential move. Instead he chose to reach out to his demographic.
Never before has an American President been so much like a corporate spokesman. Never has an administration been so veiled in corporate branding. And never before has an administration needed to spend exorbitant amounts of money (our money to be exact) to advertise for one of their wildly unpopular legislative products (Thanks Andy Griffith! If Obamacare is good enough for Mayberry its good enough for the U.S!)
That parallel being drawn is, in reality rather dangerous. A spokesman is the branded persona of a large organization. When you look at Obama as a spokesman it implies that he is not the “Leader of the Free World” as the American President is often known. He is merely as superficial a marketing tool as the logo that represents him. Where this becomes dangerous is the fact that if he is campaigning for an administration, who’s in charge? Obviously not him.
This precedent being set is one of great concern, because by its very nature it is subversive and misleading. Below is a video that aptly illustrates the dangers of a branded presidency. At the same time maybe there is a deliberate message being announced? The introduction of Corporate Government.

Being a marketing professional I tend to see the sales pitch in everything. In reality, P.R. and Propaganda are indistinguishable. So I have taken it upon myself to show you how I see things through trained eyes.
